Your Timetable

Your timetable will consist of:

• Lessons in your chosen subjects
• A number of individual study periods
• Home study: You are expected to complete 5 hours of study for each A/S or A level subject you have chosen or 15 hours a week for your BTEC or Applied courses.
• Lox100 programme which incudes compulsory RE

Assemblies and Tutor Periods

• Assemblies will be held as per the rota which will be found on the student news area of the portal.
• Your attendance is compulsory. Important information will be shared with you.
• Tutor periods and PHSCE will allow you to work on your general education and application to university as appropriate.

Lox100

This  programme runs alongside your studies and  includes a range of topics including:

• RE Curriculum 
• UCAS Programme
• VESPA
• British Values

Attendance and Punctuality

• You must attend all your lessons.
• You must attend all your individual study times.
• You must attend assemblies.
• You must arrive on time to all of these.
• You are not allowed to leave the site during lesson times. (Permission may be given to leave the site at lunchtime.)
• You must not bring take away food onto the school site.
• Your behaviour out of school should be polite and considerate of others. Do not congregate in large groups or drop litter.
• Your parents will be contacted if you miss lessons without a medical reason.
• Poor attendance will result in you being asked to leave the Sixth Form and study at another institution.

BTEC Courses (2 years)

These courses are equivalent to 3 A’ levels (Business and Science). The modules are organised on different themes and assessed by coursework, practical assignments and examinations. The awards are Distinction, Merit and Pass grades. To reach the top awards at least ten hours of private study a week is required.

BTEC Courses (1 year)

A one year course enables students to build up experience and qualifications from GCSE. They are assessed by coursework and exams. To reach the top award (Distinction) ten hours of private study a week is required. You need to get at least a Merit if you want to join the BTEC National courses in the following year.

Computers

Networked computers are available for your use in the Sixth Form Study Room. There is access to computers in other areas of the school.

Dress Code

Sixth formers are role models for the rest of the school and need to be smartly presented at all times.

Boys

• Smart trousers
• Shirt and tie
• Suit jacket or blazer
• Shoes

Girls

• Smart trousers, knee length skirt or knee length dress
• Collared shirt or blouse
• Suit jacket or blazer
• Shoes

Jackets may be removed in warm conditions.
Clothing must be such that students can be facially identified as Tabor students.

The following items are banned:

• Denim jeans and jackets
• Casual trousers – leggings, jeans style trousers where the pockets have studs
• Sportswear
• Casual tops –track suit, hoodies, round neck jumpers for boys, low cut tops for girls, T Shirts
• Shorts – only full length trousers may be worn
• Very short skirts, revealing clothing
• Trainers
• Patterns or shapes cut into a student’s hair
• Oversized logos
• Visible tattoos
• Caps

The decision on appropriate dress belongs to the school and that decision is final.

Bursary

Do you have a bursary scheme?
You will be eligible for a small amount of financial support if you are in either in care or you are on free school meals. For 2022/23 this is £15 per week if students meet the requirements of the Home School Agreement, e.g. 90%+ attendance. If you think you will be eligible then complete the application form which is available from Student Reception.

The Bursary is only guaranteed for students in care. All other students MUST apply for free school meals and have this given to them by their local council. Please go to the relevant website.

You might be eligible for financial support if your family earns less that £15,860. This will be publicised when we know if we have sufficient funds available. Please listen for information from your tutor in your weekly bulletin.

Enrichment Programme

Education is about much more than just your chosen subjects. It is preparation for a successful life. Opportunities will be provided to enable you to:

• Develop your ability to work and learn independently
• Take responsibility and provide leadership
• Develop your ability to work effectively with others
• Contribute to your local community
• Develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of issues and subjects not directly offered in your subjects
• Add qualifications
• Develop your physical skills

There is a range of opportunities, for example:

• Assisting with younger students
• HEAPs (Higher Education Access Programme)
• Subject Ambassadors
• Duke of Edinburgh award
• Competitions, e.g. debates
• Sport Leaders Award

Study Time

There are times in the week when you are not in a timetabled lesson. Making effective use of this time is an important life skill.
The times for study are the same as a timetabled lesson.
You may study in designated study areas such as the Sixth Form Study Room. Other study areas will be identified for Sixth Form use.

Study includes the following activities:

• Revision of notes from previous lessons
• Essay and coursework writing
• Research (book and internet) of a subject
• Reading a novel or quality newspaper

Reading articles and magazines/gazettes linked to your subject area:

• The Economist; New Scientist; New Horizons; Photography …
• Exam practice of past papers
• Essay planning
