Absence Policy

What do I do if I am absent from the Academy?

We ask parents to always contact the Academy on each and every day of their child’s absence and to confirm the reasons for the absence by a note to the Attendance Officer on their return to Tabor Academy. Please email Mrs Gartlan or call her on 01376 323701.

For long term absence we would expect to be kept informed of your progress by your parents/carers. In some circumstances students are unable to come to the Academy because of a medical problem but are fit enough to keep up with their Academy work. In these cases arrangements can be made to provide work by telephoning the relevant Pastoral Manager for the year group.

Information on taking holidays / time off for students in term time

Leave of absence in term time is only granted in exceptional circumstances.  Applications for holidays are not normally approved.

Parents and carers should complete the form available from Reception or Student Services, and submit this to the school.  The reason for the application will then be considered and parents or carers will be informed of the outcome of their application.

Bad Weather and Academy closure information

The school will only close to students in exceptional circumstances.

Should there be a need to close the school to individual year groups or all students, information will be posted on the school website home page and an in touch message will be sent via text message and email to all parents and carers as soon as the decision has been made.
