Hedingham Castle – ‘Much Ado About Nothing’

210 students and staff had the wonderful opportunity to visit the stunning Hedingham Castle to watch an enactment of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

The production was performed by the ‘Handlebards’, a theatre company that travels to their venues, carrying all their equipment and staging, on bikes.  Despite the twenty eight degree heat, their performance was outstanding.  With audience participation and interaction and guest starring performances by Mrs Leeds and Mr Raby, The Handlebards ensured their audience had a fantastic time.  Some of the year 7 students were victims of the villain Don John, and had their crisps stolen, much to the delight of the other pupils.

The students’ behaviour was exceptional – exactly what we would expect from our marvellous pupils.  Having the opportunity to see a Shakespeare play in such incredible surroundings is an opportunity that many had never experienced.   One student said ‘this is an amazing place and the play was so funny.  I had a brilliant time’.  Another said ‘Can we do this every year?  It was so good’.   Clearly, Shakespeare can be fun!  We plan to make this an annual trip and can’t wait to see what play we can watch next year.
