Last term some of our students entered a Young Writers’ Stranger Sagas competition. The competition is aimed at 11-16 year olds whereby they write a 100 word story based on a sentence starter stimuli.
To encourage students to enjoy creative writing, during an English lesson they were inspired by a range of catastrophic disasters ranging from avalanches and hurricanes to heat waves and tsunamis which were provided by the Young Writers’. Students chose a catastrophe which had inspired them. They had to write a story in exactly 100 words- which proved challenging in itself but our students stepped up to it!
Over 24,000 entries were submitted nationwide, and from Tabor 219 of our talented students were chosen to be published in an anthology.
All of our entrants received a certificate of achievement and a bookmark from Young Writers’.
However… the competition is not over just yet!
Our authors’ sagas are now being judged nationally and we are awaiting to hear later this term if they are the overall winner…fingers crossed and watch this space…!
