On Monday, 10th July we were able to take 22 Year 9 students to Braintree College for an engineering day. Our students took this opportunity to find out about different routes into careers in engineering and it really opened their eyes to the training, provision and support available in the engineering sector both locally and nationally. Several of the students who took part in the trip give their account below.
Mr Pennington, Achievement Team Leader Year 9.
“We spent a really interesting day at Braintree College finding out about careers in engineering. We did workshops and training on green energy and made and tested wind turbines and we also got to meet some local engineering companies and found out about the apprenticeships they offer. The best workshop was logo design where we planned and designed a school logo to be cut out of a 3mm sheet of steel. Our design was voted the best in our group and we were able to see how the plasma cutter worked. It was good to think about career opportunities that we hadn’t thought about before and have a chance to ask questions of experts. We would like to thank Mr Pennington, Mrs Burns and Mrs Mevo for organising the trip. Natasha P, Halle G and Toni P.”
